Looking at the mirror, wearing the light blue scrubs that made her breasts look bigger, Sophy was ready to start her first day as a nurse. Sophy felt proud that she has made it this far in her life and that her friend Kate did as well despite her initial fears this morning. Sophy decided to take a walk around the Emergency room where she would treat-no, thought Sophy, save people.

She remembered how large it was, in the middle of the ER there was a large room, that was stocked with every life saving tool, where seriously injured people would be wheeled in. In the corners of the ER there were medium sized, modestly stocked, rooms where people who aren't so seriously injured but still in need of urgent care would be taken to and (saved). She walked into one and picked out a stethoscope and let it hang on her neck, letting the tubing rest in between her breasts, she blinked twice...my boobs are not THAT big, Sophy thought as she walked out. In between the rooms there were beds where people would be (saved), there were tall white curtains in between the beds for privacy and at the very least a crash cart.

Walking around with a smile on her face, Sophy didn't realize that she had made her way to the Ambulance drop off point...Guess I'm so used to this place, thought Sophy with pride. Just as she was going to make her way back to the ER she heard Ambulance sirens, Sophy ran out and saw the Ambulance pull in with a screeching halt.

The doors slammed open and out jumped a a tall strongly built man who pulled out the stretcher carefully so as not to drop the young Indian woman who was doing compressions on the victim. "What happened?" said Sophy in the calmest voice as she could muster, the male EMT gave Sophy a quick glance as he maneuvered the stretcher towards the ER entrance, "13 year old Caucasian male..." he said like if it were any other Monday, not catching Sophy wince at the mention of the boy's age, "...was swimming in the pool, there was a malfunction in the cleaning equipment and he ended up swallowing a lot of chlorine...the babysitter got him out and called us," the EMT looked over to the roar of the black mustang speeding up towards the ambulance, "that should be him and the kid's sister right now."

Sophy was keeping pace with the burly EMT, one hand on the stretcher pushing it along and the other tightly over the boy's cold hand that would shake with each compression that the young Indian EMT delivered. "Turn here!" shouted Sophy as she helped turn the stretcher into the medium sized room from where she took the stethoscope from. Once inside the room, Sophy and the male EMT locked the stretcher next to the bed, the female EMT was still straddling the boy, counting outloud as she did compressions "34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39..." The male EMT made a clicking sound and his partner finished her round of fifty chest compressions, un-straddled the boy and jumped to the side, she quickly spun to the head of the stretcher and reached under the boy's armpits as her partner grabbed him by the calves. "Ready? One, two...three!" she said as the two of them with practiced grace lifted the boy off the stretcher and put him on the bed, his body shuddered lightly. Sophy did a quick run through of his vitals, she checked his pulse on his throat, wrist and chest with her stethoscope, she moved it over the boy's smooth stomach over his right lung not feeling a breathing noise and flashed a pen light into his unresponsive eyes.

She grabbed at all of the electrodes and stuck them on the appropriate places on her patient as the male EMT continued chest compressions and the female EMT gave him hits of air by squeezing on the air mask. Sophy hit a button on one of the impressive monitors that the wires connected to and got an erratic noise that could only be the kid's heart. Sophy ran a hand through her hair finally letting it all sink in, the boy looked 13 years old was of average height, had tan skin which was turning slightly gray, especially in his lips. His short dark blond hair was wet like his baseball player's body which shook with each strong compression of the male EMT, Sophy noticed that the kid was only wearing white swim trunks with black pinstripes. She also noticed the she was just staring at the two EMTs who have been trying to save the kid for who knows how long, Sophy turned to find the defibrillator, she grabbed the paddles and turned the machine on and set it to charge to 200 joules. As she heard the machine whine to life, Sophy grabbed the conductive gel and squeezed a good amount onto one paddle, set the gel down and rubbed the paddles together as she stepped towards the trio.

Out of the corner of her eye she could see a 16 year old Caucasian boy wearing nothing but blue jeans and flip flops, probably the baby sitter Sophy thought and a 17 year old Caucasian girl who was wearing a man's red hoodie sweater, and a form fitting black one piece swimsuit, the sister, thought Sophy. The couple were looking into the room from the small window, "CLEAR!" shouted Sophy as she brought the paddles close to the boy's chest, the EMTs back off and Sophy pressed the paddles to the boy's chest and pushed the buttons. The girl looked away as she saw her little brother's body jump with 200 joules coursing through his body, Sophy saw how his body moved up with the paddles almost as if he were glued to them and then come crashing back down. Sophy turned to the monitor that was now registering a regular rhythm, the three life savers breathed a sigh of relief, Sophy turned to the window as she was putting the paddles back in place and gave the couple a thumbs up, the two of them hugged each other tightly.

"That was some good work there" said the female EMT as she extended her hand out to Sophy

"Thanks," she said, "I'm Sophy, this is actually my first day as an official nurse"

"Impressive," she returned, "My name is-" she began before her partner cut her off

"Yeah, that was some good work" he said as he stared at Sophy's chest

The EMTs walked out of the room only to be mobbed by the couple, Sophy chuckled as she turned her attention back to the kid who was coming out of it. The boy woke up to a blinding flash over his eyes from a penlight held by a big breasted nurse, needless to say, he didn't mind.

"Hello," said Sophy as she ran the stethoscope over his chest, "I'm nurse Sophy, whats your name?"

"...John" he croaked out and started coughing lightly

"Sh-sh-shhh" Sophy cooed telling herself that a kid who nearly died from swallowing large amounts of chlorine wasn't going to be able to talk very well, she decided to just smile instead, John really didn't mind that.

The EMTs left and the couple introduced themselves as Terry and Julie, for the next ten to fifteen minutes they talked about what happened and then turned to lighter topics.

After getting John into a sitting position and telling a joke that she had learned yesterday, Sophy noticed that John, the boy, wasn't laughing. "Didn't you get it?" she asked trying to sound hurt as Terry playfully nudged his arm. "I thought you liked those dirty jokes" said Julie teasingly with her arms around Terry's waist, John looked down at his bare chest and rubbed his right pectoral, "I feel weird..." The three looked at John alarmed, suddenly he turned to the side of the bed and vomited, he leaned back against the bed and started to convulse, just as soon as this all started, his eyes rolled backwards and John slumped on the bed limp.

"JOHN!!!" shouted Julie, "Get her out of here" Sophy told Terry as he wrapped his arms around her waist and dragged her out of the room. Sophy turned to the bed with the limp teenage boy on it, she set the bed in a flat position, placed an oxygen mask over his mouth, found her mark in the center of John's chest and started CPR. "Come on, come on...1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9..." She paused her compressions and let the mask let in some oxygen then she continued "11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19..." she paused then continued CPR. Sophy looked down at John's unresponsive body and backed up a little, her head snapped up and saw Terry and Julie outside the window, Sophy got her hands on John's chest again and gave him a quick shake, "Come on John! Breathe!!," she interlocked her fingers again and pushed into his chest, "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10!" she paused and heard the oxygen mask faintly hiss oxygen over his mouth. Sophy grumbled and tore the oxygen mask off his face, grabbed an ambu bag and secured it over John's nose and mouth and squeezed at the plastic bulb, giving him three hits of air. She saw John's chest rise and fall with the air, set the ambu bag down and continued compressions, Sophy felt John's cold skin under her hands and how his chest sunk in with every compression, she heard the silent exhales that came out of him as she pushed the air out of his body, the beeping of the heart monitor as it kept pace with each thrust, she could smell the drying vomit on the floor and of the conductive gel that was still on John's chest, she saw how his body would tremble from head to toe with each compression and Sophy did not like the hopeless feeling creeping up on her.

Sophy stopped compressions and tried to ignore the whine of the flatline as she walked around the bed and grabbed at the defibrillator paddles. She was fumbling with the paddles in one shaking hand and the conductive gel in the other, trying to squeeze some gel the paddles that she quit and shot some on John's chest and turned back to the defibrillator unit and set it to 250 joules. She placed both paddles firmly in one hand and rubbed the conductive gel evenly over John's chest with the other, hearing the whine of the unit stop she placed the paddles on John's chest and hit the button. There was a thumping noise as the shock was delivered, John's back arched and came back down, the monitor was not changing. Sophy rubbed the paddles together and set them back down on John's chest "Clear!" she said even if there was no on there. John's body shook with the joules and then laid still, "Come on, come on..." whispered Sophy franticly rubbing the paddles together and adjusting the joule level to 300, the high pitched whine seemed to last forever in an ear splitting tone to Sophy and then it stopped. Realizing that she had her eyes closed, she snapped them open and slammed the paddles on John's chest and hit the buttons, shocking him. John shook more than the last two times but the effect was the same, she pressed the paddles to his chest and shocked him, "COME ON!!" she shouted. Sophy risked a look to the window and saw Julie press her tear streaked face against Terry's chest as he held her close to him. Sophy set the unit to 360 joules and turned back to John, she firmly one paddle in the center of his chest, said a silent prayer and pressed the button.

John's body heaved upwards and his arms flailed with the shock and then he laid still. The shaking that John made caused the re breather to hit the floor, "Oh, shit!" said Sophy as she tried to find the mask, she grumbled angrily and turned back to John. Hands shaking, she placed one hand on John's cool forehead and the other under his chin, Sophy does a head tilt/chin lift, gave a quick look in John's throat, pinched his nose shut, took a deep breath and sealed her mouth over his. Sophy breathes for the boy, her cheeks puff out with the breath and his puff up with it, she turns her head to the side to take in another breath and she seals her mouth over his and breathes. "John, don't you die!" she says as she has her ear over his mouth trying to feel a breath, she hears Julie's distorted wail come from the glass window as Sophy gives John another rescue breath. Sophy gives John another rescue breath seeing out of the corner of her eye as his chest rises and falls, she looks down at John's closed eyes and grabs him by the face, "Live, damn you!" she starts to sob, Sophy is pinching John's nose shut again and is lowering her mouth closer to John's, "I'm trying to save you..." she whispers, their lips brush each other and she gives him mouth to mouth resuscitation. John takes in the air and then exhales it as Sophy removes her mouth, he is still for a second...then two...then John makes a noise and sits bolt up right coughing, Sophy is taken aback but then starts laughing and kisses him on the cheeks.
"My first day and I saved you!" she says in between kisses, John doesn't mind.

Im close to finishing the Nurses series (fingers crossed)
Im also thinking about starting another series, the characters will be all women of different shapes, sizes and races but they wont be interconnected like in my past stories. The prevailing theme is that the stories will take place in different locations (good title?) where resus scenes would look great in: an ambulance, a beach, a classroom, an ER, a house, a lake, a mall, a park, a pool and a yacht.
