“I tell ya, Bob…” said a slightly drunk Detective Dodson, “tonight may have just made my career!” The usually surly looking detective was grinning from ear to ear, be it from the story that he had to tell or because of his fifth beer. “It was a slow day today, as it usually is, but all of a sudden; a politician, a boxer, a socialite, a baseball player, a movie star, a fruity billionaire and a porn star get killed off…by the same wacko! And get this, the guy who sent this psycho was one of the victims! How crazy is that Bob?” he said as he downed his cup.

“What is the world coming to these days?” asked Bar-tender Bob (who’s name really isn’t Bob, but he looks like a Bob) as he was cleaning a mug, tonight was a slow night, so he indulged the inebriated detective to continue his story. His best looking waitress had to run to the hospital, something about her kid… “Go on Detective Dodson, tell me your story”

“Im afraid it’s almost over. You see, there was a witness, actually there were several but most of them didn’t get a good look at the guy or they’re currently in a nut house” Bar-tender Bob pauses for a second, changing the channel on the television set and continued wiping at the mug “Go on…”

“Well there was this kid, nice kid looks like he’s going places ya know? But I had to play the bad-cop to get him to talk…all of a sudden I had to take a leak and when I come back I find him with two slugs in his side!” The detective said in an angry tone.

“Is the kid alright?” asked a suddenly worried Bar-tender Bob…

Tina Thompson raced to the hospital where her son, Todd, was taken to. She had gotten a call during work that her son had been arrested for the murder of Evaline Edwards, his favorite actress! And then he was found with two bullets in his side. It made no sense at all! When she asked Tiffany, the lady at the front desk where they had her Todd, Tina saw her husband tony with her youngest son, Jim. She ran over to them and said “How is he, Tony? Where is he?!” she sobbed into her husband’s chest. Tony rubbed her back reassuringly and affectionately, “They’re trying to stabilize him right now” he choked out while he ruffled Jim’s hair who was looking into the room where his brother was.

Two female nurses and a doctor were working valiantly to save Todd’s life, partly because if the kid died the detective outside threatened to have them arrested and partly because one of the nurses was Todd’s girlfriend and she threatened to kill them all if they failed her one true love. “Alright, I know he’s your boyfriend but I need you to stay focused okay?” said the doctor

“Shut up, doctor, cant you see that she is going through enough?” said the young black nurse

“Its okay, I got everything under control, just please help me, please don’t let him die…”

And with that the part time nurse and the head cheerleader leaned in to give her boyfriend a kiss of life. She could see his naked chest rise with the breath and then fall, she could feel and hear the breath pass his lips and go into the air, but she didn’t hear him take in another. “Ok, go again!” Taking her cue from her best friend the black nurse got onto the step, placed her hands in the middle of Todd’s chest and started compressions “1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 and 7 and 8 and 9 and 10 and 11 and 12 and 13 and 14 and 15 and 16 and 17 and 18 and 19 and 20 and 21 and 22 and 23 and 24 and 25 and 26 and 27 and 28 and 29 and 30! Come on Todd…” she whispered and nodded in Tabatha’s direction.

Tabatha pinched her lover’s nostrils shut looked into his mouth trying to look for an obstruction, finding none, she took in a deep breath and sealed her voluptuous Latin lips over his mouth and breathed for him. His cheeks puffed up and his chest rose but when she removed her mouth from Todd’s cold lips he only exhaled the precious oxygen. “No…” she said and leaned in to give him another breath, followed by another one. “Let me try again” said her friend Michelle as she got into position for chest compressions “Continuing cpr…1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 and 7 and 8 and 9 and 10 and 11 and 12 and 13 and 14 and 15 and 16 and 17 and 18 and 19 and 20 and 21 and 22 and 23 and 24 and 25 and 26 and 27 and 28 and 29 and 30!” she whispered as she delivered each compression. Todd’s well formed chest would cave in under the pressure but his heart was still in v-fib. “Dammit, doctor! Charge the paddles again!”

The doctor was a new resident and was nervous in his new position, “I don’t know if that’s a…” mumbled out the young doctor only to be cut off “Please…” said Tabatha as she was forced to give her dying love another rescue breath “Please.” She said looking at the doctor through red rimmed eyes. “A-a-alright” said the doctor, not sure if this was going to work, he reached for the paddles on the crash cart and set them to 300 joules “Alright everyone…clear!” he shouted as he placed the paddles on Todd’s chest, barely giving Tabatha and Michelle enough time to move. He hit the button and Todd’s body arched half a foot with the shock and he slammed back down on the bed. There was a slight beep on the heart monitor but he was still flatlining “Shock him again!” shouted Michelle as she watched Tabatha administer chest compressions “Charge to 360” said Tabatha in a daze as she counted the compressions in rhythm “…1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 and 7 and 8 and 9 and 10 and 11 and 12 and 13 and 14 and 15 and 16 and 17 and 18 and 19 and 20 and 21 and 22 and 23 and 24 and 25 and 26 and 27 and 28 and 29 and 30” she got off the step once the doctor came back with the paddles

“Charged at 360! ALL CLEAR!” Once more he placed the paddles on Todd’s chest and shocked him; Todd’s body convulsed with the shock and came back down again. Weeping, Tabatha buried her face in Todd’s chest “No, no, no, no, nooo…” she moaned out like a wounded animal. Until she heard that his heart rhythm was back to normal. She got her face off his chest and looked into his half open eyes “Hey babe…” he said in a hoarse voice “Hey yourself” she said. Michelle went outside and told Todd’s family and the Detective that…

“The kid’s fine. With the evidence that we found at the seventh crime scene and the description that the kid gave us, we sent a SWAT team. I led the damn thing! The guy was a smart one though, had his hide out booby trapped, killing half of those brave boys who went in there, we were so disoriented…and he fought like a tiger, he picked off the other half of the group, leaving me for last, but every tiger stops when he gets his knee caps blown off right?” The Detective nervously laughed, he put his mug down and he got a wet look in his eyes, realizing why he was drinking so heavily. He leaned in close, nothing but somberness on his face.

“But on a serious note, guys like him are the reason I got into law enforcement. Guys like him need to be put down; because he’s not a man…he was an animal. So, I waited a good ten minutes to call it in, because the boys who gave their lives to stop him are never gonna go home to their wives and kids, what he did to his victims, even if they deserved it and what he did to that nice kid…I’ll tell ya right now Bar-tender Bob, I beat the crap outta that animal. If I could, I’d do it again” He spat to the side and slammed his mug down, spilling the beer, he smiled, “He’s probably in the hospital wing of a prison right now…eating through a straw.”
